As if Brazil wasn’t violent enough on a regular basis. They went on strike today and 90% of the force is paralyzed. The remaining 10% are patrolling but not intervening in street crimes. According to word on the streets, you can’t go downtown without losing your wallet, and at least two bank agencies were held at gunpoint this morning, with the robbers making a safe getaway. Talked to my mom on the phone just now, and she tells me that back in my hometown of Carazinho, three supermarkets, a jewelry store and a bank were also sacked with no resistance, and that’s in a town with a populace of 50 Thousand.
Not sure if I’m staying home today or going out to sack, loot and kill.

That is awful. Even here in Bulgaria in the muddy 90s, the wild west of the post-communist world, things like what I read happening in Brazil, were more or less unheard. I am really sad that one of the countries that we think is somewhat influential in the world, have such crappy living standards for its people.
On top of totally backward doing of economics, I really don’t understand why you don’t revolt towards your crappy politicians.

Damn man, Good luck and stay safe.
Unless you can safely nab that Nova you’ve always wanted, I’d stay out of it lol.

Honestly, neither do I... probably because short of killing them al off, it wouldn’t make much difference what party is in power. They hide behind diferente names and jumblings of letters, but in the end, they’re all the same. Corrupt, power hungry assholes.

I was just reading about Brazil the other day, I had no idea how bad it was there. And to think the Olympics are in Rio next year. I see a LOT of bad shit going down, unfortunately.

Yeah, the world cup went smoothly somehow (for those not forced to live with the neverending construction works anyways), and the Olympics will probably go as well, but part of me can’t help but wish Rio will be hit by an epic crime wave during the games, which will also be plagued by filthy venues and infrastructure breakdowns. Basically, a fiasco to tarnish any sort of legacy the current government might leave.

Pretty much, but cranked up to 11. There’s a guy, goes by the name of José Dirceu, who regards himself as a hero of the people from back when he “fought” the military dictatorship in Brazil, who’s been arrested yet again on corruption and embezzlement charges. This guy kinda got pegged as the scapegoat for the entire government staff, so this morning hes been found guilty and arrested for the second time mere hours after leaving prison.
I honestly don’t know what good prison will do. Someone should shoot him dead.

Well, I suppose you could always fall back on Dom Luiz, if you had to.

I mean I understand it, I live in a country that politicians talk shit about the people that elected them. I know the educated, well meaning people are minority in every country and I know about the protests around the World Cup and the Olympics, but fuck it, I just expect more from you and you neighbor Argentina to do more.
We here in Europe are more or less ruled bu the fuckin’ EU and the stupid EU antics, so no hope for us, but I really hope you can sort your problems.

Yeah, I know... I’ve no idea what would take to get the people to rise up though. It’s like the power structure is so far removed from day to day life, out in a distant city in the middle of nowhere, that nobody’s really sure of how to just get there.
